I'm struggling to realize, to accept, that you, my close friend Are, are dead but the story is out there on TV, the radio and in the newspapers. I have known you for more than 25 years and seen your unique way trough life. I will miss your company, your laughter, your easy-going ways. I will miss leaving work early to meet you for a swim at Lutvann or a Kebab at 'the best place in Oslo', I will miss our mathematical discussions, how we would work on challenging problems together. I will miss all emails coming from you and how they made me laugh and blush. I will miss you as a companion when we went hiking.
Now they say I will never enjoy that again, but I will wait for a sign, an email, a phone call or a knock on my door for a long time.
Are, you were the best friend I could think of,
Per Christian

- There was a gathering on sunday for the people involved in the search and Ares family and friends at Dillingham.
Have the same feeling. Thanks for such a touching article.
ReplyDeleteAnybody knows when and where will be the funeral? I just want to farewell my friend.

Gathering of Aloha
ReplyDeleteAre's parents and family have requested that all volunteers involved in the search and recovery of their son meet at the parking area behind Dillingham Air Tower at Noon on Sunday. They would like to thank everyone at this time and it will give all of us some time for closure.

I will be attending this gathering, and will post some photos this evening.
Aloha,
Jeff
Very touching note about Are, Per Christian. It is very sad that he had to leave us so early. The good memories of things we did together come to me all the time.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone help ask the question regarding the funeral?
ReplyDeleteThere is no way I can catch this noon
Many thanks
Zhu
I also need to tell the world that I will miss my friend Are so so much. With him, my view of life and science broadened. I deeply thank you, Are.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, amigo.

No exact details of a funeral. If I find out anything today, I'll post tonight.
ReplyDeleteI do believe Are will be going home to Norway with his family.
Aloha,
Jeff
There are no words to express the sadness we are feeling this moment...
ReplyDeleteEveryone who knew Are has good moments to remember him. We have a lot... Our dear brother-in-law, best man and friend.
We will miss you too much and will always remember you, our "carioca viking friend". Thanks for sharing your happiness with us, to have been part of our lives. You will always be alive in our memories.

He was my regular customer & I am a cab driver. We met couple of years ago. I picked him up from HNL airport to his apartment at Kuhio Ave at Waikiki, since then he called me everytime he went to airport. I used to pick up his parents and his trip to mainland & Maui. I will never forget his smile and jokes. I saw his photo and heard the news at KHON2, I could not believe that he was gone. I could not sleep that night. Mr. Are I will miss you, you are a good man I know from my heart. Moe
ReplyDeleteUffda..
ReplyDeleteFår håpe du får et tegn en gang da, om det enten er fra de døde eller om han er levende, men vi får håpe på det beste :)
Dear Per,
ReplyDeleteWe did not know how to post the message in the blog in any other way than a comment. So here it is. We hope that it makes its way through to Are's family.
Yours sincerely

It was with great sadness that we learned of the disappearance of Are. We were hoping that he was found with
life. God had other plans though, and wanted him near Himself.
We are very thankful for the opportunity of having known Are, and for the time we were able to be with him here in Brazil or
through emails.
Always in a good mood, fond of jokes, of soccer and very intelligent, Are enlightened us in the brief period of time he has been in
our country and here on earth.
The photo chosen on the blog portrays him well, always smiling. And it is such smile that we want to keep in our hearts, that of a man with a boyish smile.
We hope that his family receives our most sincere condolences and our hope and assurance that he will rest
in peace.

Oh, Ninhim! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Miss you.
Hårei
We hiked yesterday on the trail in his memory.
ReplyDeleteHi David, that's very nice of you. Are is dearly remembered by his many friends, it seems.
